GENERAL INFORMATION
SKI LOCKER
The ski locker is situated in the basement of the apartment block (door on left when entering the main door). There is a separate key to open the main door. Our ski locker is the first door on the right upon entering the basement. THE APARTMENT DOOR KEY OPENS THIS DOOR.
*PLEASE CAN WE REQUEST THAT YOU DO NOT BRING YOUR SKI BOOTS UP TO THE APARTMENT *
There is a box labelled ‘CHILDRENS EQUIPMENT’ in the ski locker. This is our equipment but you are welcome to borrow it. If you use it we ask that you clean it thoroughly before returning it. The plastic items (including the top of the highchair) can go in the dishwasher on a hot cycle which cleans them very thoroughly. Failure to clean these items if used will incur an additional charge.
INTERNET
We have Wifi internet. The password is: wellington. We would love you to use your free Wi-Fi to leave us a review on our website!!
CHECK-OUT
Check out time is 10am. Please leave the parking beeper on the table and the apartment key in the lockbox. Please contact Snostation if you need to store your luggage. Please remove all rubbish from the apartment (failure to do so will incur a charge).
LUGGAGE STORAGE
As with most apartments in the alps our apartment is compact but we have plenty of storage. Consider storing your suitcase in the ski locker or under the bunk bed. In the main bedroom there are drawers under the bed which are great for additional storage.
PARKING
The parking remote control for the underground parking and internal garage door key will be found on the table when you arrive. All spaces are allocated and ours is the locked garage directly opposite the door, marked ‘The Astor’.
BINS
To access the bins, walk out of the main apartment door onto the road, take a left and then a left immediately onto Chemin Francois Devouassoux and you will see the bins on the left, in front of the apartment block. They have general waste, recycling and glass bins. Please empty all bins on vacating the property.
SAFETY
There are smoke detectors in both bedrooms and in the hallway. There is a fire blanket underneath the kitchen sink.
LAUNDRY
Please see over for instructions for the washer/dryer. An Airer is provided for your use, you will find this with the ironing board and iron in the toilet. There is an additional small drying rack in the kitchen / lounge. The iron and ironing board are in the WC.
ELECTRICITY
The fuseboard is in the cupboard on your left as you walk in to the property. The main trip is the large switch at the top.
HEATING
There is underfloor heating throughout the apartment which keeps the temperature toasty warm (only switched on in winter).
If you need the apartment warmer than provided by the underfloor heating, there are electric heaters in each room. To control the individual heaters, turn the lower dial on the side of the heaters to the house picture and adjust temperature using the upper turn-dial (ensure the control panel in the hall next to the intercom is set to ‘run’ on the right hand sider and the bottom slider is set to ‘off ’ with the slider moved to the far right.
To control all heaters at once, use the panel next to the intercom in the hall. You can select pre-sets on the right hand slider and switch the individual radiators onto the corresponding pre-set. Please see the instructions on our website.
There is also a heated towel rail in the bathroom, just press the left hand boost button twice to switch on. To adjust the length of the ‘boost’ time, toggle the up and down arrows and press the central button to confirm.
****PLEASE THINK OF THE PLANET AND ENSURE ALL HEATERS ARE SWITCHED OFF WHEN YOU LEAVE THE APARTMENT****
WATER
The hot water is supplied by a large hot water tank heated overnight. There is enough water for 6 quick showers. Please bear this in mind when planning your bathing regime – a cold bath after a day on the slopes is not fun, trust us! If you plan on having more than 6 quick showers or using the bath please use the ‘boost’ switch on the fuseboard, press at least ½ hour before you need extra water.
The stopcock is in the basement, take the first door on the left as you walk down the stairs into the ski-locker, ours is marked A106.
KITCHEN
The kitchen should be fully stocked with all you need. There is a filter coffee machine, kettle, toaster and blender. Cleaning items are under the sink. If the dishwasher isn’t cleaning well it may need more salt. Kids dinnerware is also supplied. Additional seating for the dinig table can be found in the second bedroom wardrobe. Please let us know of any breakages so we can replenish items for future guests to enjoy.
BEDS
Please note the top bunk in the second bedroom is only suitable for adults and children over the age of 6. The double sofabed in the lounge has a memory foam mattress. The mechanism is a pull up and over mechanism. Please do not force it – if it is difficult to open the bed you are doing something wrong! The bedding for the sofabed is in the grey Ottoman. When closing the sofabed the bottom bar needs to be gently lifted over the kickboard – it’s a bit fiddly but lifts over with a bit of gentle pressure.
PREENING
A hairdryer and hair straighteners can be found in the wardrobe in the main bedroom. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel is all provided for your use.
SHOPPING
There are two large supermarkets available to get supplies. The Carrefour Market Supermarket is on the main road into Chamonix. Walk right out of the apartment building onto Rue Helbronner. Take a right at the roundabout and th Carrefour is on your left (also has a petrol station). It is approx. 3-4 mins walk and has everything you should need. There is also a Super U supermarket in the pedestrinanised part of the town centre (117 Rue Joseph Vallot). This again has a good selection of supplies. It also has large fresh meat, fish and cheese counters which probably offers a better selection of fresh food than the Carrefour.
There are numerous local Savoyard shops selling beautiful cheese and meats throughout the pedestrianized centre of Chamonix as well as organic stores and bakeries with beautiful cakes!
There is a he number of mountain / skiwear shops in the centre of town suitable for all budgets. There is a Decathlon store in the centre of town (19 Avenue Michel Croz) which is brilliant for good quality ski and mountain wear for all the family.
SKI HIRE
Please see our website for our advice re: Ski Hire. If you haven’t pre-booked then we advise during busy periods going in the evening before as it can take quite a long time to get all your kit. SkiMium offers the best value in our experience with stores in Chamonix Sud and Sanglard Sports (address on our website www.astorchamonix.com).
CHILDREN
We have kids’ dinnerware available in the kitchen and a blender for baby food. Boardgames are available and the kids often love playing on the Wii or watching our movies. There is a travel cot beneath the bunk bed.
